Telemedicine in the Healthcare Delivery System

Telemedicine has become a healthcare access imperative. Its innovative benefits are of vital interest amid the implementation of most healthcare regulations. Telemedicine uses a variety of forms of electronic communication technology to provide a convenient method to deliver healthcare services and education. The program surveys its current uses and organizational deployment of telemedicine. The discussion includes adoption and innovation across clinical and patient perspective. Technical, operational, regulatory, and financial/reimbursement aspects of the development of telemedicine programs will be investigated. The expanding role that telemedicine holds in daily medicine and its direction into the future of the healthcare delivery system will be explored.

Speakers Bios:

Julie Hall-Barrow serves as the President of Maxwell Telecare, spearheading the organization’s development and implementation of innovative care delivery models. She oversees strategic growth of the Network; a collaborative network of health providers, including community physicians as well as other like-minded providers, who work together to keep independent providers independent.

 

Since joining Maxwell Telecare in March of 2021, Julie has recruited strategic leaders to provide expertise in management and acquisitions, operations, technology, and launched services in Texas and Minnesota. She is a well-known expert in the field of telemedicine, remote patient monitoring and digital products aimed at improving access and health outcomes. Her leadership in facilitating collaboration between national technology and health care organizations has earned her accolades from industry publications, including recognition among the Most Powerful Women in Health Care IT by Health Data Management and the Achievement in Innovation in D CEO’s Excellence in Healthcare Awards.

 

Prior to joining Maxwell Telecare, Julie held executive leadership positions focused on health care transformation, joint ventures, increasing access to care through technology and overseeing the largest school telemedicine program in the country. In addition she launched behavioral national and regional mental health initiatives that included obtaining millions of dollars for care and infrastructure. She oversaw the building of new pediatric healthcare facilities in North and South Texas. She continues to advance the telemedicine field through research and education as an active member and Fellow of the American Telemedicine Association.

 

Julie holds a Doctor of Education (EdD) in higher education administration from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and a Master of Science in Kinesiology from University of North Texas.

 

Mae Centeno, DNP, APRN, ACNS-BC serves as the Chief Nursing Officer for the Virtual Care Delivery Channel at Texas Health Resources.   She has over 30 years of critical care nursing, advanced practice, and nurse executive experience.

 

Dr. Centeno has implemented several care models to identify high-risk patients, scale scarce resources as well as increase bed capacity.

 

She is passionate about transforming health care, incorporating technology in the care delivery model, providing access to affordable, equitable, quality, and safe care.

 

Mae is married with two children and is passionate about spending time with her family and traveling.

 

Nick Kagal served as the Vice President of Marketing & Business Development and is now the leader of Client Success for SpinSci Technologies, a healthcare technology solutions provider focused on driving patient engagement. Nick previously led Customer Success for the Western United States for Premier Inc.’s Performance Services division supporting informatics solutions and services focused on cost, quality, and safety. He has over 25 years of experience in the healthcare industry and has held leadership roles with several Dallas/Fort Worth health systems including Parkland Health & Hospital System, HCA, and HealthSouth.

 

Nick received his BA in Biology & Psychology from Austin College and an MBA from Texas A&M University. He is a Fellow in both the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and the Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and is a board member of DFW HIMSS. Nick lives in Plano, Texas, and is an avid sports fan, a weekend warrior athlete, a long-distance cyclist, and plays guitar & bass in the local cover band Sonic Dissonance.

 

Vicki Nolen has oversight for clinical improvement, virtual care and telemedicine for the 26 acute care hospitals and 105+ physician offices, as well as CHRISTUS Health’s international ministries in Chile, Colombia, and Mexico. She has led the development of new models for providing innovative care through telemedicine both within the hospital setting and for outpatient ambulatory visits. She is a licensed vocational nurse and was her school’s valedictorian, but then went on to get a number of advanced degrees and is in the process of a PhD in Psychology. The majority of her 20+ years of healthcare experience has been in process improvement, operational excellence, strategy, operations, and digital/virtual strategic development. In 2021 she received the award for Outstanding Healthcare Innovator by D Magazine’s CEO Excellence in Healthcare awards.
