SUMMARY:The Value of Developing and Implementing Alternative Care Models
DESCRIPTION:This virtual panel has been approved for 1.5 ACHE Face-to-Face Credits\n\n\n\n\n\nDeveloping new delivery models that embrace alternative payment models goes beyond simply supplying patients with information at time of checkout or discharge. It includes a commitment to patient-centered care\, providing clear and useful information to patients\, helping patients establish goals and plans to live a healthier life\, creating a team of clinicians and administrative staff with clearly understood roles and responsibilities\, and using office systems to support followup and tracking of patients. Managing programs aimed at chronic illness and changing behavior are challenging and take time for everyone involved—providers\, patients\, and caregivers. Yet\, it is often patients themselves who are called on to manage the broad range of factors that contribute to their health. Common sense suggests—and health care experts agree—that people with chronic care needs should receive support to help them manage their health as effectively as possible. Helping patients to make good choices and maintain healthy behaviors requires a collaborative relationship between health system leaders\, community-based programs\, clinical teams and patients. Learning how to incorporate these new models into a health system or practice can support patients in building the skills and confidence they need to lead healthier lives.\n\n\n  \nMelissa Campenni\nDivisional Vice President of Network Innovation and Strategy\nBlue Cross Blue Shield of Texas \nRichard Doane\nDirector\nPremier \nRoger N. SUMMARY:Interdependence of Public\, Private and Federal Healthcare Delivery
DESCRIPTION:This virtual panel has been approved for 1.5 ACHE Face-to-Face Credits\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe traditional boundaries between Public\, Private and Federal Healthcare delivery have become more permeable as healthcare regulations and requirements have changed. The beneficiary population can no longer be considered as belonging to its system alone. \nPatients seeks services outside healthcare systems for many reasons\, including access\, capacity\, and cost. Traditionally\, migration between healthcare systems would be discouraged through financial measures or by threat of disenrollment. Today healthcare systems rely on each other to provide services that they cannot provide for financial\, geographical or accessibility reasons. The Veterans Administration and Department of Defense both rely on partnerships with public and private healthcare systems to provide care to Veterans\, Service Members\, and their dependents beyond the capability of the Federal system. Likewise\, public and private healthcare systems enter into affiliation agreements with Federal sector healthcare systems for academic and research-based support. \nThrough this discussion\, participants will gain an understanding of the complexities related to documentation of episodes of care\, reimbursement for completed care\, and information technology challenges; the interoperability and cooperation of Public\, Private and Federal Healthcare Systems during natural or manmade disasters; and the future of Public\, Private and Federal Healthcare Delivery as it relates to the continued homogenization of their respective patient populations. \nAaron Bujnowski\, FACHE\nDirector\, Integrated Delivery Network Leader\nThe Chartis Group \nJason Fisher\nExecutive Assistant to the Director\nSouth Texas Veterans Health Care System \nEric D. SUMMARY:Ethical Challenges in Healthcare Leadership
DESCRIPTION:This panel has been approved for 1.5 ACHE Face-to-Face credits.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEthical challenges arise in all aspects of healthcare and service\, from the bedside to the boardroom. SUMMARY:Behavioral Healthcare: Approaches to Increase Value for the Organization and Meet Community Needs
DESCRIPTION:This panel has been approved for 1.5 ACHE Face-to-Face Credits. \nHistorically\, hospitals and health systems have not always embraced a role in meeting behavioral health needs in communities because managing behavioral healthcare and mental health is very complex. According to the National Alliance of Mental Illness approximately 1 in 5 adults in the U.S.—43.8 million\, or 18.5%—experiences mental illness in a given year. The rate of youth with severe depression increased from 5.9% in 2012 to 8.2% in 2015. Nearly half (45 percent) of those with any mental disorder also meet criteria related to having a physical illness or substance abuse. Physical health and mental health issues occur together. For example\, people with diabetes or cardiac conditions often develop depression as well. Being able to receive treatment for both conditions through an integrated behavioral health and primary care setting can be especially helpful since how we live our lives (behave) and our physical and mental health all interact with each other in complex ways. \n  \nKyllan Cody\, FACHE (Moderator)\nChief Executive Officer\nEncompass Rehabilitation Hospital of City View \n  \nTheresa Murphy\, LCSW\nDirector of Behavioral Health for the Family Medicine Residency Program\nMethodist Health System \n  \nCapriana Oyedeji\nProgram Manager of Dept. of Psychiatry\nUT Southwestern Medical Center \n  \nSandy Potter\, LCSW\, MSSW\, MBA\nVice President of Behavioral Health Services\nTexas Health Resources \nRegister Here\nSpeakers’ Bios: \n  \n  \nIn her position as CEO\, Kyllan Cody\, FACHE oversees all day-to-day operations as well as patient care and quality at the 77-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital. SUMMARY:Leading a Culture of Safety: A Blueprint for Success
DESCRIPTION:Lead & Reward a Just Culture & Establish Organizational Behavior Expectations\n\n\n\n\nThis panel has been approved for 1.5 ACHE Face-to-Face Credits.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMedical errors are the third leading cause of death in the United States at 220\,000 to 440\,000 people dying each year from preventable errors according to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention. Clinicians and hospital staff face a devastating impact as a result of being involved with a medical error especially in organizations without a support system in place. Moreover\, only 64% of staff who responded to the 2016 Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture’s hospital comparative database felt that reported mistakes led to positive changes. To help healthcare leaders achieve total system safety across the continuum\, ACHE\, and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement/National Patient Safety Foundation Lucian Leape Institute developed a guide “Leading a Culture of Safety: A Blueprint for Success”. This Blueprint is designed to help leaders shape\, create and sustain the type of organizational culture needed to ensure patient and workforce safety and inspire healthcare leaders on the journey to zero harm.\n\n\n  \nTimothy Harris\nChief Medical Officer\nTexas Health Denton \nPatty Kallal\, MBA\, CCSSBB\, CMQ/OE (Moderator)\nSafety Committee Chair to Board of Directors\nBoys and Girls Club \nTodd Roberts\, FACHE\nVice President of Quality & Patient Safety\nOU Health \nLaura Weber\, RN\, BSN\, MBA/HCM\, CPHQ\nVice President Clinical Effectiveness & Patient Safety\nMethodist Health System \nRegister Here\nSpeakers’ Bios: \n\n\n\n\n  \nTimothy Harris\, MD\, was named chief medical officer at Texas Health Denton in December 2013. SUMMARY:ACHENTX Third Quarter Education Event
DESCRIPTION:These panels have been approved for 1.5 ACHE Face-to-Face credits each (3.0 if you attend both). \nAgenda:\n3:30-5pm – Panel #1: Embracing a Dialogue about Gender Equity and Intersectionality \n5:30-7pm – Panel #2: Equity of Care \nRegister Here\nThis will be a virtual event.\nPanel #1: Embracing a Dialogue about Gender Equity and Intersectionality\nAs healthcare consumers become more demographically diverse\, healthcare leaders seek to recruit and retain talent from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Gaining an understanding of intersectionality will equip leaders to build and retain team members across difference and in ways that establish common ground and cultivate inclusive cultures of belonging The concept of intersectionality recognizes that everyone has multiple identities that intersect and influence how we view ourselves and interact with others. Learning how to effectively apply intersectionality principles will help organizations move beyond the one-dimensional aspects of traditional diversity\, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts. \nIn the drive for gender equity\, healthcare leaders have acknowledged the need for fully inclusive gender equity that recognizes the intersectionality of race\, ethnicity\, sexual orientation\, and other dimensions of identity. Efforts to improve women representation in the senior ranks of healthcare management must include women from all backgrounds and experiences. When intersectionality considerations are incorporated into gender equity strategies\, organizations can reap tangible\, proven benefits including better talent recruitment and retention\, stronger DEI outcomes\, and improved organizational performance. \nPanel #1 Panelists:\nLaSharndra Barbarin\, MHA\, FACHE\nChief Executive Officer\nMedical City Lewisville\nPatricia T. It is known however\, that there is a healthcare divide in the U.S. especially in vulnerable populations including: those lacking health insurance (or are underfunded)\, low-income families\, racial and ethnic minorities\, and LGBTQ populations. The Affordable Care Act aimed to address access and equity of care issues by expanding health insurance coverage. Deficits in access to care changes the way healthcare is delivered and financed. \nTo embrace diversity is a core principle of the healthcare management profession and is also an ethical and business imperative. Healthcare organizations must ensure their staff is educated on disparities to appropriately address the needs of patients from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds to provide equitable high-quality care to all. It has been shown that patient-centered care improves clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction while reducing medical errors and costs.
