SUMMARY:COVID-19: What We Learned: Staffing/People Resources
DESCRIPTION:This panel has been approved for 1.5 ACHE Face-to-Face credits.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEmergency management requires precise identification and allocation of staff to align capabilities and capacity with the need to effectively deliver care for the community. The COVID-19 outbreak caused a substantial shift in the availability of staff and resources\, and the accessibility of timely delivery of care. In response to the evolving needs\, organizations have shifted staff in a variety of ways to ensure they were able to effectively screen\, triage and care for patients. This panel will provide strategies and tactics of how their organizations adjusted their staffing structure to ensure that the most appropriate level of care is delivered during a medical surge such as the COVID-19.\n\n\n  \nPanelists: \n\n  \n\nCheryl Flynn\, SPHR\nSenior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer\nMethodist Health System \nTrey Greenwood\nDirector of the Human Resources Service Center\nTexas Health \nBrent D. Rodriguez\, MD\, FAAP\nChief Medical Officer\nNorth Texas Area Community Health Centers \n\n\n\n\n  \nRegister Here\n  \n  \n\n\n\n\nSpeaker Bios: \n  \nCheryl Flynn joined Methodist Health System as Senior Vice President/Chief Human Resources Officer in August 2013. In her role\, Flynn serves as Methodist’s lead executive responsible for strategic transformational leadership. She develops policy and directs all human resources activities for Methodist Health System including talent acquisition\, employee relations\, employee engagement\, compensation\, benefits\, HRIS\, wellness\, employee health services\, organizational effectiveness\, patient experience\, pastoral services\, and work community of choice initiatives. \nPrior to joining Methodist\, Flynn served as Chief Human Resources Officer for NCH Corporation in Irving\, a global company with 8\,500 employees in 52 countries. Prior to NCH\, she spent the majority of her career with LSG Sky Chefs in a variety of progressively responsible roles\, concluding with Senior Vice President of Human Resources for the Americas region during which she oversaw all human resources activities for more than 90 locations in North and South America. \nCheryl holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Pennsylvania State University and is a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) through the Human Resources Certification Institute. \n  \nTrey Greenwood is a 10-year veteran of Texas Health. He spent five years as the Entity Human Resources Officer supporting strategic initiatives at Texas Health Cleburne\, Texas Health Allen\, and Texas Health Plano. While serving in this role he focused on achieving top-decile performance in employee engagement and retention. In his current role\, Trey is responsible for designing and implementing new Shared Services functions within Human Resources. \nDuring his time at Texas Health\, he has played an integral role in developing new processes across the system to support HR operations\, including automating job descriptions reviews for employees and leaders to comply with regulatory standards and creating new procedures to decrease workers compensation cost by bringing employees back to work in modified duty assignments. His knowledge and experience in HR operations supports his passion for designing new processes that will support the workforce. \nTrey has a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Texas A&M University and a Master of Arts in Psychology with an emphasis in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Stephen F. Austin State University. He is a certified professional in human resources. \nTrey resides in Bedford\, TX\, with his wife\, Caity. In his free time\, Trey enjoys woodworking\, building furniture\, and scuba diving. He also sits on the board for the Assistance Center of Collin County. \n  \nBrent D. Magers has more than 40 years of experience in the health care industry. In his present role since 2007\, he has been responsible for all aspects of Texas Tech Physicians. Prior to this\, he served as the CEO and in other administrative roles at three hospitals. \nHe is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and a Certified Medical Practice Executive of Medical Group Management Association. In 2012\, he earned the FHMFA designation from the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HMFA). Brent was also awarded an additional specialty certification from HFMA in accounting and finance. \nBrent holds two master’s degrees – one from Trinity University in health care administration and one from the Texas Tech University where his thesis concentrated on health care marketing. He is an adjunct professor in the health organization management program of Texas Tech University Rawls College of Business. \nHe received undergraduate degrees from Abilene Christian University in communications and general business and Western Governors University in accounting. \n  \nDr. Patricia Rodriguez is a board-certified pediatrician who graduated medical school from The University of Texas Medical School at Houston\, where she also completed both her internship and residency. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Texas A&M University and is a proud Aggie. Before joining NTACHC\, Dr. Rodriguez served as Vice President and Chief Health Equity & Inclusion Officer for Children’s Health in Dallas\, where she spearheaded system-wide strategies and initiatives in pediatric health equity and inclusive care delivery practices. Prior to relocating to Dallas\, she served as the Director of Pediatrics for a Houston-area federally qualified health center for nearly seven years and brings extensive experience and expertise in community health and clinic operations. Alexander believes #weareallinthistogether \n  \nBrock Spencer is a Customer Service Manager for WebTPA in Irving\, TX. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics from the University of Central Missouri and his MBA from Western Governors University. He joined ACHE as a member in January of 2021 and is currently a mentee in the mentorship program\, part of the social media committee\, and part of the book club. \nBrock is a huge proponent of personal branding and quit all other social media platforms in December to focus his efforts on LinkedIn and how to best utilize that space. He has grown his connections and following ten times what it was just six months ago while amassing almost a quarter million views on his content. He has also been tasked with helping his employer and coworkers with expanding their LinkedIn presence to drive recruiting efforts.
